Budget airlines from UK to Rome

Hi Folks
I have to take a flight from the UK to Rome in May. I live in the north of
England so although flying from London is technically an option, it will
take a lot longer and be far more expensive. There are no flights available
from Manchester, my airport of choice, from the major airlines and on the
dates I need to travel, which are pretty fixed because of attending an
event.
So that leaves me with a choice of Jet2 from Leeds Bradford to Rome
(Fiumicino) or Liverpool to Rome (Ciampino) with Ryanair. The practicalities
of getting to and using either airport are pretty similar as are the times
and prices of the flights. This leaves me without a favoured option going on
any of these options. Attitude and assisstance available from the airlines
in question then becomes my next thing to consider.
In short, I have never flown with either airline so does anyone have any
experience of using either of them, which they would be willing to share
which would be helpful in making my decision? I'm particularly interested in
experience of using the airlines at the airports I mention, as well as in
more general terms. I do know about the high profile press reports Ryanair
have attracted but I would rather concentrate on personal experiences than
press reports.
Many thanks in advance for any advice or experiences.
JonB
