A post script to my last:-

I suspect those leather valve flaps (for suck vs.blow) are probably
vertically sensitive :-/ If they do need gravity to drop shut before the
vacuum holds them closed then they'll need turning too! Quite a few of the
little bvggerz, I imagine !

So don't let the better half get too handy with the cordless drill on my
say-so!
