Excellent, thanks. Just to clarify, cos I'm a bit slow; you mean an
entirely new eBay account, just with eBay.fr, with a completely
different user name etc? The answer must be yes, because if I used my
existing name, it wouldn't be a different account ...

Not sure whether you missed my reply here
<fjgnc49g7e2lvcs1cc4lpm2jn6euaict0n@xxxxxxx>, but this has nothing to do where
an account was created. You only have to alter one setting in your browser to
see these items.

Thanks, once again. Yes, I have read the articles you referenced, but
must be missing something obvious. The articles seem to be referring to
a French court decision appertaining to certain brand names. Which
setting in my browser (Firefox 3) should I alter? I receive the same
results whether using Firefox or Internet Explorer.

In Firefox select the "Tools > Options..." command and then the Advanced tab.
At the bottom you find the language settings which you can alter with the
"Choose..." button. Add another language (I tried de-de and fr-fr) and move it
to the top of the list. Afterwards the page loads successfully.
