In recent days, whenever I access an ebay page which is several screens long
(such as a list returned from a search), Internet Explorer uses 100% CPU for
about 15 seconds. Until it is finished I am unable to scroll down. This
makes searching, looking at items and returning to the search list a very
slow process.

I've had a similar thing recently, when searching for things.
It is Javascript, probably poorly written, which using my browser is
easy to turn off.
Try it without, and see if it makes a difference.

I remember reading recently how IE was asking the local computer to run the DLL URL's rather than the server? Perhaps it's something to do with that, although we use firefox wherever possible.
