This afternoon I received a phishing mail (supposedly) from Paypal.
Didn't open it, just sent it as an attachment to paypal spoof.

A few minutes later I received a phone call from my isp telling
me that the plug had been pulled on me for sending viral/phishing
messages.

Never heard of an ISP phoning a customer to tell them they've been
suspended.
Normally we just suspend them, and wait for them to call customer services -
who then, if need be, forward the call to the abuse department.

I was astounded.
Fortunately the bar was only for 1 hour, with the threat of indefinite
on the 3rd occasion.

What did they say when you explained what you'd done ?

I rarely fwd such messages to either Paypal or Ebay and shall not
do so again in future.

I stopped forwarding them a long time ago .... waste of wear and tear on my
mouse.

I realise that they do little about them anyway.

Last year I saw an email they sent to us. Very shitty threatening flood,
plague and legal action. The guy who received it just clicked <reply> typed
"*** you", click <send>.
.... and then removed the dodgy page.
eBay - how to win people over and work as a team.

Does the attitude of my isp signal an even more free-for-all attitude
towards phishing/virus laden messages?

Nup. It's ISPs working to stop customers sending out phishing emails and
infected emails.
The smart scammers dont post directly through their ISP email platform.
;o)

After all, the message went through their system on its way to me.

Your ISP can't take direct action against another ISPs' customer account,
although they can raise an abuse report.

Which ISP are you with ?
Sounds like the kind of thing AOL or BTInernet/Openwound/Yahoo (or whatever
they're called now) would do.
