Java and Javascript are NOT the same thing.
Javascript (with a great deal of variation in some of the details) is used
by most web browsers and is fairly safe to use if you stick to the common
features. Note that some paranoid users disable it though.
Java means a big download of a Java runtime engine if you haven't got it
installed already. Flash also needs a flash player downloaded before it
will show anything.
OK, I understand that now.
I occasionally use very simple javascript (when you code an "OnClick"
action for a button or image you are writing a one-line javascript
command) but navigation is something that should always be available in
plain HTML, with CSS for simple enhancements like changing the backgound
when the mouse is over the link.
NEVER rely on flash as the only means of navigation!
