Same here. I think it may be because Google penalises "multi-user"
sites (eg, free ISP webspace) - I have now moved one site onto my own
domain, so we will see whether that makes any difference over the next
few months.

I wondered if sub domains was the issue, but

where the web site is not very well written (I used frames which are not necessary), and it don't even validate, seems to do quite well on Google. Perhaps one day I'll "fix" it, but the site is well ranked and I've earned consultancy fees from the software. So it can't be too bad!

That is of course a sub domain of sourceforge.net, which I doubt is much different from http://your-site.your-isp.com or any other such "free" web site. Or perhaps your site is www.your-isp.com/~your-user-name, which is a bit different.
