Why yes, I've killed anything with altopia in the path on uly for years.
However they don't filter the crap they produce, masses of articles
cross-posted to lots of groups generate lots of replies from lots of
different people and those replies generate more replies.
It's a sad state of affairs when posting the same article to one
group 20 times in 45 days means the articles are cancellable yet someone
can post substansively the same article, i.e. the content is irrelevant
the post is only intended to generate noise, 200 times cross-posted to
several groups in one night with the full blessing of their newsmaster
who probably spends 3 months a year on a beach in the Bahamas on the
proceeds.
I certainly won't be proposing a group in the uk.local hierarchy until
there is some guarantee that the newsservers will take action against
blatant abuses of the internet. I've considered proposing a uk genealogy
group as well, I know there are people around with access to data and
information which would be of great help to people researching their
family history, I think such a group would be a great benefit to many,
especially those abroad whos ancestors came from these shores. But once
again, such a group would be vulnerabe to those sad people who get their
enjoyment spoiling usenet for everyone.
