Any ideas chaps?
Hi Tom,
First thing to check is that you've got the right input and output
selected. The first time I ever used it, it took me a while to realise
that it sounded bloody awful because it had defaulted to using the
laptop's built in microphone (not the line in, the actual mic) as the
input ... so it was applying distortion and effects to everything in
the room, and getting into an awful feedback loop kind of affair
(noise out of speakers then picked up by mic and so on).
Like you, I'm running directly into the Line In with one of those 1/4"
jack -> mini-jack cables, and it sounds great.
Are you using a preset on there? If you're starting by making your own
patches, it'd be worth trying a preset to see if that's any better. If
you ARE making your own patches, don't forget to add the speaker sim
(s), else it'll sound toilet. Also check the input / output levels
and the CPU load (all visible at top right, to make sure you're not
maxing any of those out.
Generally speaking, it seems a lot more stable as an AU (or VST if
you're on a PC) in another program (GarageBand or Logic in my case)
than it does free-standing, but it should sound fine with what you're
doing there.
It's worth persisting with! :o)
Cheers,
nick
I need more guidance, but thanks for the info so far.
How do I know what the right input and output is?
e.g - line in for the input and pc speakers for the output?
How do you know youve selected the right parameters?????
I can occasionally get it to make a horrible noise but the lag is dreadful.
I'm not usually this thick, honest.
