I've had Vista for about a year now and currently have two computers running

One of many from what I hear. It appears that, like many other Micro$oft
products, Vista has been released long before it is ready.

I'm becoming increasingly disenchanted with it, to the extent that I'm
making serious investigations into Linux, specifically Ubuntu and Kubuntu,
even though it's over a decade since I had anything to do with UNIX.

Anyone using them?

They've made massive strides over the last few years; I'm running
Mandriva 2008 on one pc, which I like more every time I use it. The 2008
edition is itself a huge leap from 2007.

I'm also running an Asus EeePC with Xandros Linux (a variant of Debian,
I'm told), which is so Windows-like you can put it in the hands of an
ordinary non-techie Windows user and they can just get on with it. It's
downside, for me, is that Asus have semi-crippled it so it's tricky to
get other software working on it, though it's possible.

Mandriva though is entirely in the Linux spirit; free, open-source, and
fully configurable. My daughter Linzie wants it installing on her
computer, and I've successfully got an XP virtual machine running inside
it through VMware for when she needs to use those Windows programs. I
think my own machine may end up heading that way too!
