No, it's not a V-Amp, it's an external hard drive. I got it on eBay a
while
ago, brandless... I can't find another one now.
Jose
In that case (pun intended) I would buy a new hard drive enclosure,
assuming it's USB 2.0 rather than Firewire for a tenner off eBay and take
the drive out of the original enclosure to put in the new one. Depends
how old the
You're a voice of reason. But I am an unreasonable one. I want what I want,
damn it! ;-)
No, seriously, I already ordered a new case. They're cheap enough, buying a
new adaptor will cost about the same, or sometimes more. So for practical
purposes, I just got a new one. Transferring the drive from one into the
other is a breeze.
The thing is that the original case, the one I cannot use, is great. I like
the shape, design... and would love to be able to use it again, even if
economically it doesn't make sense. So I'll keep looking for an adaptor.
Thanks to IanM I found that LaCie uses a similar one on some of their drives
(I still have to verify it's ok, but I'm 95% sure), but it would be
something like £29 plus delivery. So I'm looking for alternatives.
Now I know what it is for, I know that somewhere in my piles of old
computer kit that I have a PSU from a dead Firewire caddy that has a
multi-pin power connector. I only have a vague idea where it might be in
a box buried at the back of a cupboard, but if I do happen to find it, and
if the pinouts look similar to your picture, you'd be welcome to it - but
finding it is not going to be easy, and could take a day or so to get to
it - if you saw my garage, you'd understand completely. OK - I'm not
proud :-)
oooh, that would be great!
If you find it, do let me know. As for the state of the garage... I don't
need to see it, I understand already... I don't have a garage but I have a
room that has become some kind of Aladdin's Cave wannabe. From time to time
I go in there and I come out with things I didn't even remember I had. I
worry that one day I will not come out at all. ;-)
Thanks Nick!
Jose
