Re: Crate Powerblock. Any users?

I am wondering what's the *clean* headroom of this amplifier. Any users here?

I'm considering getting one, mostly for bass. The second band I'm in rehearses sometimes at the guitarist's place. It's not terribly loud. He has a tiny weeny bass amp (10W I think) and I struggle to hear myself. It's too far for me to bring my little combo and as I usually go there straight after work I really don't want to be carrying bass + combo. I don't want to leave it there either.
He has a 12" cab I can use 'though... if I bring a head. I have a 300W head, but it's a little heavy and bulky. The Crate seems great sizewise (almost too good)... and power-wise it should be plenty. I really don't need to be very loud. My 40W bas combo would be adequate. The question is, does this Crate have enough headroom while staying *clean*?
If it did it would be fantastic: cheap & tiny. I'm off to check Harmony Central, but I'd rather hear from somebody here.

Cheers!

Jose

Whilst not strictly a direct answer to your question, I'm not normally a bass player, but two nights ago I filled in on bass at rehearsal because our bass player let us down at almost the last minute. All I have in terms of a bass amp at all is a little Line 6 LowDown 110 which I normally use in the house if doing a bit of recording, so I thought I'd give it a whirl and use its XLR out if necessary to plug in to the PA. We're a heavy rock band and one of our mates popped along with his guitar effectively taking my normal place on guitar whilst we basically had a jam, so we weren't particularly quiet to say the least. I have to say, that I needn't have worried as the LowDown 110 was loud enough and clear enough without any backup from the PA. It's a neat little unit and not heavy and might be worth a look.
