I'll answer myself (10 minutes and no replies... tch tch... ;-)

I just realised the thing even has an FX loop. So I can plug in a preamp
there and keep it clean. Or as clean as the preamp. I happen to use a Zoom
B2 as a tuner (just wanted to check some FX cheaply on the bass, then
decided I'd rather use it just as a tuner, as I like the display)... the
zoom is a little amp modeller too, so I think it should do teh trick for
this.

Anybody has a Powerblock for sale? ;-)
