That's what designers are for :-) Sadly we rarely get to know their names
in the guitar world. The big exception is Ray Dietrich, a GM car designer
who was responsible for the Gibson Firebird. He named it too. The fact that
Pontiac produced a car of the same name a few years later is probably no
coincidence.
