nosferatu - that's interesting ... despite definitely preferring
strats to teles, I've always found the latter to be more versatile. I
suppose that depends upon your definition of "versatile", but I often
used to find myself thinking: "shall I take the strat and the les paul
tonight ... or just the tele?". I agree with you though, that a strat
seems like much more for the money - just in terms of construction
materials if nothing else.

I would agree on versatile, not from a playing point of view, as I don't
have one of either (used to have a strat and have one of those £30 teles -
don't think that counts), but when you look at the range music that is done
with teles it is very wide (Country, western and other styles!)

Woody - I think that spending a lot of money to pay for something
battered is a little daft but, imho, some guitars can look pretty cool
when they are a little "beat up".

I agree they can, but they are really easy to beat up yourself!

It is, like many things we discuss
here, all down to personal preference. Personally I hate any kind of
damage whatsoever to Gibsons

Well, don't know - a les paul can look ok with the top stripped off, but
then I quite like the wood ones of those too, so maybe that is because it
looks closer.

but I tend to like my Fenders looking
like they've been chained to the back of a pickup truck and dragged a
few miles down the interstate, depending upon the finish. There's
nothing more to it than that, I just think it looks cool. :)

I agree it can look cool (and can look crap), but it wouldn't add value to
something in my eyes. I suppose it is like the 80s where you could buy
pre-ripped jeans.

I even blogged thusly: http://guitritus.bumlasers.com/?p=31

Wow - I didn't know that server had another use :-)
