Re: PU switching idea

My first idea was to have a couple of HBs and a master vol plus a 'blend'

with simpler control of the overall volume. Since sourcing two more rails
style s/c size HBs, plan B is to have 3 PUs and a 6 position rotary switch
giving me 1,1+2,2,2+3,3 and 3+1. I think I can also include the 'blend'
control on the 1+2,2+3, and 3+1 settings but it would act in a slightly
unusual way in that fully clockwise the 1,2 and 3 individual PU switch
positions would work as normal but the 1+2,2+3, and 3+1 PU positions would
be silent. At halfway all 6 selection would operate but at less than full
output from each pickup and fully anticlockwise positions 1,3 and 5 would be
silent and switch positons 2,4 and 6 would give pickups 2,3 and 3
respectively.

I'm fairly sure with the aid of a mini-toggle or a pull (or push) pot the
blend control could be reconfigured as a conventional tone control and the
1,1+2,2,2+3,3 and 3+1 PU combinations would work conventionally. With the
inclusion of a couple of resistors at the extreme positions of the blend
control all the selector positions would never be completly silent but none
of the pickups selected alone would be at full output either.

So the blend control alone choice seems to be:-

1) 6 possible silent switch positions at extremes of the control but full
individual PU output available.

2) no silent switch positions but no full individual PU output.

3) 3 possible silent switch positions but full individual PU output,
although the possible silent positions would be the same as the individual
PU output.

Which option would you prefer?

To be honest I don't fully understand how you can blend three pickups
with 1 pot and a rotary selector is a bugger to use live. My eggles
have one and I only end up using two poitions on that due to the
bridge humbucker over ride switch they have.

a blend control will only work with two pickups right ?

Easier to me to have a conventional strat selector or 5 way rotary
switch selecting the pups and have 4 pots

option 1
pot 1 = Master volume push pull wired to include neck pickup ala Blade
Texas deluxe wiring
pot 2 = Concentric pot allowing individual volume and tone adjustment
of pickup 1
pot 3 = Concentric pot allowing individual volume and tone adjustment
of pickup 2
pot 4 = Concentric pot allowing individual volume and tone adjustment
of pickup 3

or if you don't want 4 pots on the guitar

option 2
pot 1 = Master volume push pull wired to include neck pickup ala Blade
Texas deluxe wiring
pot 2 = Concentric pot allowing volume adjustment of pickup 1 + 2
pot 3 = Concentric pot allowing volume adjustment of pickup 3 and
global tone for the guitar

for option 1 the tone part of the pot can also be wired to act as a
switch to coil tap the pickups when not at 10
also this way you can have the coil tapped middle and bridge pickups
selected then switch in the neck either full humbucker or coil tapped
