news:1189681642.149648.22350@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxhi all, following Jose's recent post praising the sounds he could
coax from the TO800 I gave into temptation and bought one. If shred
metal is your thing, or ultra high gain Vai/Satriani/Malmsteen tones
then I suggest you stop reading now. This ain't the droid you're
seeking. Move along.
On a very brief connection and run through last night I can heartily
endorse everything Jose said about this pedal. It sounds absolutely
fabulous. (caveat - only tried at domestic volumes so far). It just
pushes my Pignose valve amp into a delightful saturation. It's tone
I've been looking for for years. And it cost less then £25.00.
Amazing. If this is what the Tubescreamer does, it's no wonder
they're highly sought after.
That's what it does, and I have one, an old TS9 :-) It was already old when
I got it in the early 90s; battered, bumps and scrapes all over it. I've
replaced the output jack on it, the switch started to act up a bit recently
but a quick clean with compressed air fixed that.
I will never sell it. It gives a great "bite" to the sounds that just about
to distort (cuts the bass side I suppose). Typical settings: drive at 10
o'clock, level at 2 o'clock, tone in the middle (adjust to taste).
I found the TO800 to be quite bright,
but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It can be tamed by using the
guitars tone controls. This is the best sounding blues/rock pedal
I've ever used.
Must get one and compare!! :-)
