I have strong feelings about bass amps. If you want to fart around
with the tone, get a Trace Elliott - they're rock solid and give you a
nice steady tone. Minimum 300W.
Has anyone here tried out the new TE range yet? How do they compare to
the old (pre-Gibson/pre-Peavey) TE stuff?
I haven't tried any of the new ones, but apparently they still have
the TE sound, even more green and still heavy. Personally neither of
those elements are to my taste anymore. I think TE used to be the
marshall of the bass amp world, a lot of people (inc me) bought one
soley on the strength of the brand without realising what they
actually sounded like and how much they coloured your tone. Don't get
me wrong, what they do they do very well, but it's just not to my
taste, I like to hear my bass, not the amp, oh and have plenty of mid
range, which the TE sound seems to lack.
Or....get a 600w Ampeg and live with having to cart around a 2X12 cab
to cope with it. Neither option will disappoint you.
Mmmmmm Ampeg............
Now you're talking.
