Hi all,
This is more of a statement than anything else. I'm based in sunny
Worcester and years ago I used to make regular pilgrimages to Musical
Exchanges in Brum to browse the amazing collection of second hand stuff.
It was fab! ...but it's been gone for ages now and I miss it. Most shops
these days only have new stuff or a tiny amount of second hand.
I know it's all about margins and people preferring to use ebay etc but
it's no fun any more. I used to work in a guitar shop and it was such a
huge learning curve being able to try all the second hand instruments that
passed through. That'll never happen via ebay. In second hand shops I
learned to appreciate many different types of guitar that I normally
wouldn't even have dreamed of playing. And when I went into MXs I could
try even more stuff - it was brilliant.
Sellers these days want to use ebay for obvious reasons and ebay can be
absolutely brilliant no doubt about it. But what I really want now is
something akin to the basement of MXs as-was. Any views?
[wistful sigh]
Message ends.
Brian.
Hi Brian, I remember Musical Exchanges very well and lamented it's passing.
You may not be aware but there is a similar sort of shop now on the Pershore
Rd trading under a similar name.. Music something or another. I drive past
occasionally and have watched the number of guitars hanging in the window
increase over the last year or so. Not been in so I can't say if its junk or
good junk. So, if you fancy you can check it out.
