That's actually a very good point, and one which seldom gets a
mention.
It's one thing playing a piece with a clean sound at home, but crank
up the gain and/or the overall volume and it's quite another as the
guitar becomes more "live" (not literally it is to be hoped!).
That's when all those subtle acts of damping and muting really come
into play and you'll know whether you've really nailed what you were
trying to learn and play right.
