notWIGAN - a drummer's perspective

Firstly, as always, the musical talent and the shocking collection of gear,
was rivalled only by the warmth, the affection and the utterly enjoyable
craic. The food, the beer and the music can come a close second but they'd
be nothing without the feeling that is "notWigan".

"touched"

I defy anyone to be in the presence of Mr Myatt or Mr Ridney for more than 2
minutes without laughing out loud.

"incontinent"

My only regret was not doing enough prep work before arriving and thereby
missing out on a lot of the socialising. I won't be making that mistake
again.

"determined"

I missed out on most of Saturday so I'll only comment on Guitar Idol.

Firstly Holly.
I think you had 50 proud dads this weekend. I don't know what else to say.

Next Steve Fivetrees.
Shit a brick man. I'll travel to the south coast to gig with you any day you
like ... in fact make that EVERY day you like. There was something religious
going on when you played.

Thirdly bass players.
Now I've played in upwards of 30 bands. I've probably guested with double or
treble that. I must have played with approaching 200 bass players. You guys
are the cream of the crop. Take a bow IanM, MikeE, Greg, PaulC ... and every
last freaking one of you.

Killing in the Name of - RATM
The best bloody fun you can have with your clothes on. This was one of the
tunes I was most looking forward to - and I wasn't disappointed. Did we rock
or did we ROCK! Recalling the memory of that one will make me smile to the
day I die.

The Bends - Radiohead
Mr. Otto. I'm a serious Radiohead fan. I think Mr. Yorke would have been
proud of you. I was. Probably the one I'm *most* looking forward to on the
DVD ... just so I can hear your vocals more clearly.

Under Pressure
Queen - Mr. Simpson, your eerie talents are only matched by your wicked
sense of humour.

Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi
Somebody sold their soul to the devil of acoustic guitar mastery ... and boy
was it worth it. I wasn't particularly looking forward to this, I thought it
was a bit cheesy. So much so that I decided the gap before that one was the
perfect point to take the dump I'd been waiting for, for about 20 songs. BOY
was I knocked out - by the song, not the dump. The dump was good I grant
you. The band looked and sounded UTTERLY professional, in a totally
non-cheesy, completely rock and roll way. It fair knocked my socks off with
surprise and delight.

Du Hast - Rammstein
Mr Cobham and the guys had me genuinely scared!

Feel a Whole Lot Better - Byrds
12 string heaven

Footprints - Wayne Shorter
James being one cool jazz cat

Gay Bar - Electric Six
This song was made for Greg ;-)

Getaway Car - Audioslave
Superb choice superbly played. One of my favourite spin-offs to GI is
getting introduced to fantastic stuff I'd never heard of. This floated my
boat.

I'm the One - Van Halen
Bit miffed I fluffed the into but IanM straightened me out.

Incommunicado - Marillion
as above. Mr Screaton - DUDE!

The rock stuff rocked. The groovy stuff grooved. For 8 short hours I was in
rock and roll heaven.

Right now my bed is calling.
Until next time ... April maybe?

Cheers,
Steve W
