I followed the thread(s) from beginning to end but as I didn't see the
slightest need to criticise JF I didn't intervene.

Indeed, it was being taken care of by others, as you have noted.

I don't think there's much evidence of "group bonding". The miscreants
are a singularly diverse bunch: left-wing, right-wing, young, old,
unemployed, self-employed, PAYE, atheist, agnostic, believer, etc.:
about the only thing in common that I can discern is a certain
individualism, and a belief in one's own ability to make one's own
mind up about things. So if a large number of these individuals
simultaneously get pissed off with a poster, it's not because of
some hive mind at work - it's because the poster is being an arse.

It doesn't matter who it is - if someone refuses to budge from
an untenable position, they will get flamed all the way to alt.hell
and back.

Maybe I missed something in the past, but I can see no reason for
paying any more than passing attention to JF. I found the thread
which Mr. of Aix is, rightly to my mind, complaining about highly
amusing, and it wasn't Follett I was laughing at. How about not
feeding the troll?
