Ignoring your disputable comments about global warming. FossilNo it isn't. There's 300 years' worth of coal under Yorkshire

Yes it is! If there's 300 years worth, then it will run out in 300
years! We won't be there to see it happen but that doesn't mean it
won't.
Ultimately, though, what happens to us (the people alive today)
is surely all that matters. And in any case, a way of harnessing
solar or nuclear energy to produce hydrocarbons will have been
found before the coal runs out - the alternative is unthinkable.
Well, it might be found if anyone bothers to look. The problem is
exactly this sort of thinking- "As long as it lasts my lifetime...."
People with kids/grandkids often have a slightly longer-term view.
OK but that more or less means that we don't live for today but for
tomorrow. Of course we shouldn't waste/destroy/*** things up
deliberately but we have to live our lives not those of hypothetical
descendants. It isn't much of a life if we are constantly saying "but
what about our grandchildren or generations to come?". If we really did
that we'd do nothing, just in case.
