Why? C'mon, tell us, rather than just knee-jerk recived wisdom. I'm
quite happy to run ftp server on my main CoLo server box. Tell me why
should I be worried.

I'll give you that FTP can be more efficent, but if you want security
and encryption you'd be better off using ssh/sftp...
