I had a nice day, I hope you did

This morning I went over to a friend's house to sort out her ancient PC
that was making a funny noise and wouldn't start Windows. I suspected
the HD of course but after a bit of thinking and following leads,
literally in this case, I discovered that her pet rabbit which has
freedom of the house mostof the time, who is very sweet otherwise, likes
to hide behind the PC and also likes gnawing cables. Thus he had chopped
one of the wires the KB cable. Good job he didn't try the mains.

I was 20km from my house where I have plenty of spares so it was
fiddling with scissors as available tools to strip of some cable casing,
bare the broken wires, attach them and sellotape them up. It worked fine
but it's the first time I've mended a PC rabbit problem.

On the way back I came across an old fellow fiddling with his moped, a
spark plug problem but he couldn't get the old one out or a new one in,
or even the cap on the spark plug because of what seemed incredibly bad
design that didn't leave the space to do anything. Finally I realised
that there was a sort of handle behind that dropped the motor to give
access, did the job, was promised a drink next time we met in a local
bar and he was on his way.

Further on I came across an old Italian couple in a camper van,
scrutinising a map intensely and obviously lost. Knight of the road that
I am I stopped and offered assistance. In a mixture of languages it
turned out they were looking for 'a church' a big church. Thanks, that
helps. They were a little irritated, not with me but with each other,
probably driving round for hours looking for this 'church', he getting
frustrated, she nagging. It turned out it was 'a church' always seen on
postcards. That meant it had had to be the Abbey of Silvacane, about 6km
away, or the Abbey of Senanque, about 25km. I sent them to the former as
they seemed to recognise the name as that of the 'church' they were
looking for.

Finally, to finish off the day, I went to see an artist friend around
the corner for whom I had built a PC out of bits a week or so ago and
who was waiting for the telco to sort out synchronising his line so that
he could have ADSL. This evening it was done.
His village house is on a sort of terrace/road with a superb view across
the countryside (our village is on top of a rocky spur), the Alpilles on
the right in the far distance and Cezanne's Mont Saint Victoire on the
left with the flourishing Durance plain below with its field patterns
and the snaking river running through the middle.
I was invited to eat of course and as usual we ate it outside on this
terrace which, given the view, sees many tourists pass, who I usually
make comments to just as they usually wish us Bon Appetit. It's fun.
After that I introduced him to the Internet and left him with the vital
knowledge of how to find 'cul' via Google.

I like productive days like that, I hope yours was good too.
