Can I be the first to say not that impressed?

I was.

I thought it was a great start to the new series.  I liked the idea of
him coming back for Amy twelve years later (although it was pretty
obvious that was what had happened), the story was reasonably decent
and didn't rely on a Davies-style DEM, and not a pointless gay
reference in sight.

You have to cut the first episode a little slack, as it's establishing
the re-boot of the series, but I think it looks very promising.

What was with the very prominent placing of the word "Myth" on the
laptop?  Is that going to tie into this season's arc I wonder.

The story itself was okay, had the requisite amount of CGI and running
from A to B as required by the Dr Who handbook, my problem was the
total non personality of the Doctor.

He just didn't seem to give the character any gravitas. Ecclestone
made my jaw drop as the doctor and Tennant, while playing it with a
lighter touch, managed to do so convey the age, the experience and the
depth of the character.

The new Doctor came across as some glib cocksure smughead with an 'End
Of Ther World In 20 mins? Piece of piss' attitude and just gabbled his
way through things.

He was a little glib at times, but TBH that's when he reminded me most
of Tennant.  To me, that whole "Naaaaaah, piece of piss!" attitude
summed up Tennant's portrayal, certainly towards the end, so in that
way it sort of provided some continuity.

It's early days yet though, and Smith no doubt still has to find his
feet and his own "voice" for the role.  I think that will come as the
new series progresses.

I certainly hope so. Her indoors didn't see it so it'll be getting a
second viewing this evening with a less judgemental eye.
