Anyway, the hypothetical scenario is this: might RC have (coughs
politely) links to "Angus" bearing in mind "Angus's" obvious
interest in raking over old ashes.
It would be futile to argue with you at length, but may I
just point out that the "ashes" in question only came to
my attention when I used Google Groups to find a URL for
a recent thread about mathematics, in sci.math, relevant
to the Horizon programme that was being discussed? This
is all a matter of recent public record, and it should not
be at all hard to verify, before you or anyone else feels
the need to spin any fanciful alternative explanations.
Up to that point, I was managing to avoid any participation
in this nonsense. The fool who so assiduously tracked my
posts in Google Groups and marked them all with one star is
the person who should carry the most blame for all this fuss.
RC has several family members who must have
internet connections. And let's not forget that RC responded to
"Angus" with almost indecent haste.
It does seem downright weird that on the two occasions in
the last year when I have come to this newsgroup, I have
almost immediately made some mention of Ramsey Campbell,
causing to all kinds of confusing and unpleasant nonsense
to erupt.
I have no explanation for this, other than the completely
honest explanations I have already given, which explain my
motives and actions, but do not explain the coincidence.
Of course, this is pure idle speculation.
On that, we can agree!
Imagine growing up in a family where your father hides away and
refuses to even look at you.
By an odd coincidence, certain recent events in my life have
caused me to hide away in almost complete silence, not even
telephoning my daughter for those conversations we usually
have for an hour or so most days. I'm sure this is very
upsetting for her. (I haven't been totally ruthless - I've
e-mailed her almost every day, so that she can contact me,
even by telephone, if she is not too angry to do so - which
she presumably is, because she hasn't phoned.)
It would surely fuel paranoia of some description.
There's certainly a lot of paranoia around somewhere.
Anyway, this is all pure conjecture. All that can be _reasonably_
deduced from "Angus's" curious raising of old issues is that it
appears to have led to a conveniently immediate response from RC.
Not very convenient for me, I assure you! The guy is, obviously,
something of a hero of mine, and I would not have chosen to 'meet'
him under these conditions, if at all. (I'm an almost total re-
cluse, and don't go out of my way to meet anybody, hero or not.)
I also found "Angus's" sycophantic praise for RC a little cheesy
and excessive.
Well, I didn't like 'The Parasite' (1980) much. Does that help?
Alas, I fear it might not: because I seem to recall reading some-
where that it is his least favourite of his own books, a fact (if
it is a fact) which might only reinforce suspicion that I am his
sock puppet.
If he really likes RC's work so much why hasn't he joined RC's
message board?
Is that compulsory?
I did say, I hardly read anything these days, and haven't got
right through a book (apart from a couple of mathematics text-
books) for years. It would be rather strange to join a message
board for an author if I'm not currently reading any of his (or
anyone else's) books!
But I did pull 'Demons by Daylight' off the shelf, today, because
it's all short stories, and I've never read it (shocking, I know).
This has been turning out to be one of those days, on several
fronts.
