Because we've burnt it all in these gas fuelled power stations over the
past 20 years. This is probably one of the dumbest energy decisions ever
made in a country that is sitting on millions of tons of coal reserves.
Perhaps you might consider that all those coal reserves came at a
price, the price being that a certain Mr Scargill would always get a
casting vote at overthrowing whatever democratically elected
government came his way that he considered wasn’t socialist enough.
Mind you, at least in the Old Labour days they appreciated the
importance of infrastructure.
When it come to dumb energy decisions I suspect we haven’t seen
anything yet as the lights going out any time soon will testify to New
Labour’s energy policy.
A policy that was born out of an obsession with the Guardian reading
public sector, health and education, at the expense and basic
ignorance of all things remotely nuts and bolts.
Only Brown could ever have had the f**kwitt mentality to piss up the
wall good money after bad on what was basically one huge interfering
social engineering agenda from an army of middle class patronising
scrounging left wing hand wringing nannies and then describe it as
investment.
