Brilliant! Especially for those who thought there was no resistance in
Germany post WWII. There was film of the uprising in 1953 that I had
never seen before. Not to mention floats full of naked women in
military parades because the DDR hierarchy liked naked ladies a lot.
LOL
Whether the programme gave a true image of the DDR years is hard to say.
Most in the programme looked back to the DDR years with nostalgia. Full
employment, holidays, free medical treatment, housing, always looked
after by the state, enough free anabolic steroids for Olympic athletes
to cause a sex change...

The "former woman" who had the sex change operation (allegedly) already
looked about 6ft 2 tall and had hands the size of a navvy to judge by
footage on the train.

That's possibly why she was good at whatever she did.

In general what people tend to forget is the Germany actually lost the war
having caused a lot of people a lot of grief and suffering. Quite why
people are quite so upsert that East Germans weren't allowed to live
in a consumer paradise and holiday camp, having been instumental in bringing

Try: <http://www.die-berliner-mauer.de/en/61.html>

"August 24., 1961

"First fatal shots - A 24 year old man becomes the first victim of the Wall.
Trying to escape, he is shot by border guards in the Humboldt port area."

He wasn't trying to "escape". He was trying to evade the responsibility his
country held in 1961, and still holds, for destroying much of Europe
only 15 years earlier.

He should have faced his resposibilities and that of his parents, by
making reparations by trying to make the FDR a better country.

His country bankrupted the UK as a result of World War 2.

The fact that the likes of you and your kind were willing to continue
the impovershment of the UK, who do you think paid the wages of the
totally unproductive BAOR ? - simply to finance a bolthole for the spawn of
Nazis - and to keep them safe from the clutches of Stalin, allegedly, and
all just so as to get up Stalin's nose makes you little better than Traitors
to the British People yourself.

to the extent of imprisoning him for life

That's right. They stay where they are until they've cleaned up the mess
they made. A country full of ex nazi old age pensioners wouldn't have been
much use to anyone after 10 years would they ? Unless of course you expected
the Soviet Union to pay their pensions.

You haven't really thought this thing through, have you ?

and
imposing a brutal death penalty for attempts to escape/emigrate.

Blah, blah, blah.

Emigrate ? They're lucky to be alive. If Stalin had had his way they'd have
all been forced marched to Siberia with any survivors put to work building
dodgy nuclear power stations.

You Tories live in dream land.

Bankrupt the Country by declaring war on Hitler so as to save the Empire
i.e India etc. Flatten Hitler by borrowing Billions off the Yanks. And
then after the war lose India, and start being nice to the ex- Nazis in
East Germany again. While losing the Election and letting Labour take
the flak for the bankruptcy stemming directly from Churchill's policies.

You fool no-one.
