It worked didn't it.

It would be interesting to see what condition the walls are in in 20
years when the tyres have started to rot.

is very difficult in the UK as tires are classed as hazardous waste and
the
planners have fits whenever anybody suggests using them.

They're classed as that for a good reason - they eventually decompose
and release a load of nasty chemicals into the enviroment.

I'm wondering what happens over time to all the organic material in the
soil?

I don't know. There may be a group in USENET
sci.* hierarchy where your question can get an
authoritative answer.

Otherwise, I know it's not a regular UMTM thing
as much as it is, or rather was, on other groups
on USENET, but welcome, new poster.

You've turned up at a time when some long-term
disputes are being aired again on the group and
even I was tempted to find a post of yours to reply
to along the lines of "Er, excuse me Mr Barker,
but aren't various of your other aliases currently
playing Ermintrude and Dougal to your Florence."

However as it is entirely possible you are really
a new poster, welcome, and don't be too shocked
if other people suspect you're the poster known
as Fuckov to many of the group's stalwart regulars.

I don't have a problem with anyone here that I'm
aware of. So, Hi, and welcome aboard. I'd say
maybe your timing could have been better but
actually the current round of flaming, baiting,
insulting, threatening reprisals and so on seems,
as Tom said the other day, to have gone on for
such a long time now that the only way your
timing could have been better was for you to
have gotten here 15 years sooner.

But, hey: Hi.

If you are unfamiliar with USENET conventions
it is possible to attach a signature to your posts
and the double-dash-space stringliteral at the
end of my posts is a signature separator which
some newsreaders use to truncate signature
files.

Copyright does apply in the public domain and
as such it would be pretty stupid to include a
declaration knowing that common widespread
newsreading software applications would just
cut it off as fast as an Italian trucker would cut
off a pedestrian's head.
