Its a lie. It assumes that if one bought a pirate copy of something one

I'm not sure that they lose nothing but I'd certainly agree they
exagerate grweatly what they do lose. They will happily claim that
they are losing n millions but any notion that if illegal downloads
were stopped they would see their revenues rise by the same amount is
ridiculous. It simply wouldn't.
Of course, I was exagerating a bit.
Both the music and film indistries are so entrenched in their old
business plans that they simply want the entire world to bend to
enable them to remain the same. It's not going to happen.
Hmm, banks? Sounds familiar.
What makes me get off my backside and go the cinema? A damn good film
that I want to see on a huge screen in the best quality possible. That
happens maybe four or five times a year. If a film doesn't warrant
that expense people will happily watch a download, often of medium
quality.
Same is true for DVD's, CD, etc. If they are worth buying, they get bought.
Problem for me is that the last bunch of CD's I bought were crap apart form
the single what were released. I felt ripped off, so not I download and buy
if appropriate.
As for TV, one can only download what's been broadcast. So, its no different
to using a VCR really.
For me movies are different. I don't go to the cinema because I hate the
experience. I would normally wait for Sky to show anything I would watch,
which I'm paying for. So, if I DL a movie, I don't see the loss to the
studio. Like CD's I only buy that which I think is really worth buying.
As with music, an all you can eat subscription streamed service and
pricing structure is the best way forward once the hardware
infrastructure for that is in place.
Maybe. My thought on music is that they should forget recorded music as a
money maker and rely on live performance. If they cant do live, then they
don't deserve the cash. (If the Pet Shop Boys can perform live, any one
can.) I'd don't want to pay for music that is not the artists work. When you
see a gig, you see the artist show off their skills. A CD is fake to me.
Fact is all these people, like the banks, have been scamming us for years.
The difference is that we can do something about the media, and rip them off
back.
Actually, as I think about it, your idea is good. I use downloads like
selective radio. So, streaming would satisfy that.
