It was a great shame there wasn't a Dai Woodham equivalent for other
regions as most of the engines saved were GWR designs. It would have
been nice to see more of the LMS and LNER engines saved.

I did hear a R4 documentary with Steve Punt looking into this thing about steam trains being mothballed for use after a Nuclear war . I only caught bits but it was superb.
It's called the Strategic Reserve or S******* R****** as the long running
railway enthusiast joke would have it. There are supposedly a large number
of steam engines stored in places like the Woodhead Tunnels.

How brilliant is that - as late as 1982 they were still there.

There were still coal mines in 1982 too.

Whats that got to do with it? They'd be picketed by Greenies now as it's fossil fuel! Look at Drax ( the power station not the evil megalomaniac)
