Not bad really , I don't think they've covered this time period
before have they? It wasn't knock you back brilliant but it was
watchable - John Simm working hard, Peter Capaldi too - the lead
gorl whatever her name is has an annoying thing she does with her
face. Glad her drippy husband got shot .
I think there was something from this period in the early 80s but I
could be
way off. It was not too bad a programme really, though I was glad
the dippy
one got shot too ;-)
There was "By The Sword Divided" but it wasn't quite the same thing.
For me, they're rushing through history too quickly and there's not
enough sense of *why* things are happening.
Still, loadsafun if you don't take it too seriously. I was expecting a lot
better from the writer of "Our Friends in the North" but it will do.
I'm flummoxed as to why they altered the speech that the Speaker gave to the
King. The original is one of the most brilliant examples of truth to power
of our parliamentary history:
"May it please your Majesty, I have neither eyes to see nor tongue to speak
in this place but as this House is pleased to direct me, whose servant I am
here;"
Why dumb it down? It's hardly difficult for a modern audience to understand.
