With what looks like another age of austerity looming (anyone for
powdered Egg and Spam ?) perhaps it is time to rethink spending
billions
on the Olympics ?
It does seem a bit like putting solid gold baubles on a very moth eaten
second hand Xmas tree !
Surely the money could be better spent helping the vulnerable survive
the
winters ?

Its not either / or.
Bring the troops home and axe the ID card scheme and we'll save more
than
enough.

Just axe the ID card scheme and prevent the government from ordering *any*
new IT projects without it going to a select committee first.
You have a lot of confidence in select committees. How come EDF got public
contracts for almost 30 years, despite select committees?

I thought that as I was posting, but I just remember hearing many reports
*after the event* from select committees, where they could have simple waved
stuff through (even Labour dominated ones), but instead gave the government
a kicking. I do believe that the IT procurement is a farce and should be
handled far more carefully.
