I'm not sure if I'm winding you up, or you me. Either way this

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but this has to be the most
sensible and economically expressed comment I've ever seen in UMTM.
I hereby declare this statement to be Schrodinger's Law. Whenever
arguments get silly, nasty or heated, Schrodinger's Law should be
invoked to terminate the discussion so that people can move on to
more positive things.
Some time ago I got into argument here with somebody I can't remember
over a subject I can't remember either. After a certain time we had
each made our points and were starting to repeat ourselves, adding
nothing new to the discussion. I then attempted to bow out with
words to the effect of 'I think we'll have to agree to disagree on
this one, mate!'.
But the other guy was *outraged* by this!
How *dare* I try to walk away from this, you can't do that, stay here
and fight like a man! Perhaps he thought I was chickening out of the
argument, I don't know.
Presumably he would have preferred us both to continue arguing in
an ever increasing level of abusiveness, no doubt finishing off with
both of us calling each other 'cunts'.
And at the end of all that, we would *still* have differed in
whatever the hell it was we were arguing about, so what would have
been the point??
Happens a lot. Whenever I've said what I think, and the other person
has stated their case I try to just leave it at that. What more is to
be said? Like you say, it just degenerates into name calling.
Although some people just leap into the name-calling straight from the
word go.
No they don't, you big silly!
