Not the case, actually. Contact was made with Human Resources and a
complaint was lodged concerning the contents of some of my posts on
Usenet.

This is the first time this has been mentioned to my knowledge.

I have no idea whether this was Barker or the same person who
takes a shot at Ophelia from time to time. My colleagues in Human
Resources gave the caller short shrift, assuring them that whatever is
posted from my own private email address is my own business, so long
as it is posted from my home computer and does not malign my employers
in any way. They also said that they get quite a few complaint calls
of this nature and are now quite used to dealing with "Usenet
malcontents with too much time on their hands and nothing better to do
than try to create trouble for others" - which, I presume, is HR-speak
for "fuckwits".

That makes something of a difference, but it doesn't explain why you
a) felt inclined to apologise and then b) turned on others who
continue to oppose Barking as they have always done.

I also fail to understand why you would keep quiet about such a
contact to your employers, for the reasons I've already stated many
times: Barker is a persistent nuisance and a very real danger to
people's well-being with these stalking tendencies. Since your case
turned out well for you, I should have thought it incumbent on you to
speak out, if only to add weight to the many charges against Barker,
and to the warning we're persistenly giving out about the threat he
represents.
