GB qualifies technically on the latter - but for all the wrong reasons ....

People have to be able to relate to something - you know, like they're
voting for a human (with compassion and feelings) rather than a machine.

The scary thing is, despite the kicking he received last week, from the TV
interviews this morning Gordon looks likely to do nothing substantial to
change the direction of the party or government. Some words and minor
stuff, sure, but nothing to restore the popularity of the party.

The 10p tax thing just before elections was massively stupid. Did he think
that people wouldn't notice? All the "stealth taxes" over the past couple of
years, the stupid local governments use of anti-terrorist laws to persecute
families over schools and open rubbish bins, fining a mother for dropping a
bit of a sausage roll (that was eaten by birds,) closing post offices,
security theatre rather than real, effective security at airports,
increasing the cost of passports to pay the billions that ID cards will cost
and nobody wants. People care about this stuff but find that their opinion
is ignored.

The only way to get some attention is to kick politicians in the ballot box.

Can he fix it? Not without abandoning some cherished policies and annoying
some of his rich new friends.
