It doesn't shut down in the way you are thinking. The blades do not come to
a halt. That would provide too much stress on the blade mountings. The
turbine is simply disconnected from the generator
So when I (regularly) see one or two out of a large group of wind
turbines not turning on a windy day when all the rest are spinning
quite quickly then the blades haven't really come to a halt and any
lack of rotation is purely a figment of my imagination?
