Re: English press colluded to hide news from people

I don't personally see the point of reporting it, though I can
obviously understand why it's news. Perhaps more so though, I do agree
that this shows how the press in this country is not free and even
after the Spycatcher debacle 20 years ago (pre-mass global
communication for all), Governments still think they can keep stories
secret.

Wasn't this a voluntary agreement by the media, though? I'd hope that
if it had been an issue that actually affected ordinary people, they'd
have refused to keep a lid on it, but I'm probably hoping in vain.

I also don't see the point in him going to Afghanistan if he's not
going to fight like any other soldier in his position/rank.

Well it looks like he was, until now.

And if he and/or other members of the establishment are not prepared for him to
face all the risks, including death, then he should not be there in
the first place, because that in itself arguably puts _real_ soldiers
at risk.

I think he's perfectly prepared to face the risk, but others would
rather nanny him because he's the Queen's grandson.

There's no reason why he should be there, any more than anybody else
should be. But since he is there, taking him out now just sticks a big
finger up to the rest of the 'lions led by donkeys' and says 'You are
expendable'.

Indeed. "This is a dangerous place. We can't allow the Prince to be
put at risk of death. As for the rest of you...back to your posts."
Completely the wrong message to be sending.
