may the rapid consumer uptake of HD begin.
One format dead, one to go. So what?
In response to other posts, the future is a combination of streaming
and downloads, especially as broadband gets faster when they pull
their finger out and install 100Mb/s cable round the country (which
will take a while but has happened in other countries so no reason
to think it won't here).
100 Mbps broadband is quite a long way off (and I'm sure that when
I've said it would be rolled out you've said it wouldn't!). So if
you've got to wait for 100 Mbps broadband then Blu Ray has got a
very long window of opportunity, and it's basically a dead cert that
it'll become successful.
The delay of one doesn't guarantee the success of another.
Not guarantee, but it certainly provides a very long window of opportunity -
a bit like an open goal and if the ball doesn't go in the net it'll be on
the clangers TV programmes forever more, that kind of window of opportunity.
It's not gonna fail though, there's enormous companies with ridiculous
amounts of clout that will make this happen. End of. Dom vs Sony and the
film studios, let the battle commence.
Why is it me vs Sony? I've nothing against Sony. They and Microsoft
make some great games consoles.
(*I don't use that myself as I'd rather download it and play it from
my Xbox, but BBC Iplayer is something that can just stream without
any additional software - something I thought would be required but
it appears they've sorted out that issue - and it's the ease of use
of that which wins the day)
And I still don't know anyone who thinks "Ooh, I must buy a HD disc
of some description!" since most people I know are too busy trying
to pay for the basic things in life and hoping a recession doesn't
stop them losing their house.
I saw someone running down the street today and people queueing up
for the bus at the bus stop
Better to do the latter there instead of on the corner where they'd
meet no-one but the singer from Lindisfarne.
English sentences please.
S'ok, if it went over your head then it's not for you.
, so it can't be a mere coincidence that this happened on
the same day that Toshiba discontinued HD-DVD - they were obviously
rushing off to buy a Blu Ray player. It'll be like the January sales
with queues outside Dixons and people fighting to get hold of a Blu
Ray player this weekend, you watch.
I wish I knew what you've been drinking... and where can I get some?
Still, if there's a surplus of Bluray stock then perhaps you'll be in
the queue because last time I asked you said you have no HD equipment
of any description.
I don't need it to support it. I just support HD in general.
How can you champion something of which you have no personal
experience in your house?
When Bluray fails and the next HD format war comes along, I expect
you to poo poo Bluray and HD-DVD as never going to succeed anyway,
just like you did with the DCC/DAT/Minidisc situation I brought up
a while back.
I've got a pretty good track record, actually. I said back in 2002
that DAB was a shit system using outdated technologies and it
would've been better to use the AAC codec and stuff, and DAB+ was
designed in 2005/6. And things are going Pete Tong for DAB at the
moment, which is always nice to see, although I don't think it will
completely fail, it'll just linger on like a bad smell and the
technically illiterate will end up using it whereas the technically
savvy will use broadband instead. Also about 2-3 years ago now on
uk.tech.digital-tv I said that HD would start to be broadcast, and
people said it'd never happen and came out with a load of bollocks
about D2Mac and other failed HD attempts from yesteryear that I'd
never heard of, but of course I was right on that one as well. And
I'll be right about the wonderful Blu Ray conquering the high street
as well. And when it happens, I think the least you can do is to
broadcast DomSez in HD, because at the moment it just looks like
someone moaning on about bollocks, whereas I'm sure it'd be
wonderful in HD.
Domsez in HD would be about as useful as Working Lunch in HD, i.e. not
at all. It's the content within that matters. Dressing it up won't
change what it has to say.
You're right, it would still be shit in HD.
You love 'em really. You wish you could do the same.
Better luck trolling next time.
It's not trolling, Blu Ray Dom, I'm just stating inevitable facts:
it's over, you're gonna lose.
Says he who hasn't even bought a Bluray machine.
As I say, I don't need to have something to be in favour of it. I support
Man City and I don't go any more but I'd still call myself a supporter of
them. Who do you support Dom, Stocky County?
If you know anything about me, you'll know my stance on football.
Then again, supporting Blu-Ray and Man City, I can see that you're the
kind of person who enjoys completely wasting their time(!)
Give it another year and the Lemonheads will mourn its passing by
releasing a new song entitled, "It's A Shame About Blu-Ray" :)
Primal Scream should re-release "Higher than the Sun" to celebrate the
glorious quality that the HD revolution is bringing to the joyous public,
and a fitting re-release to sum up Blu Ray Dom's mood when he hears the Blu
Ray sales figures for 2008 could be "Sorrow" by David Bowie.
More like "Ashes to Ashes" when a mass of unsold Bluray discs are
being burned.
What was the total sales for 2007, and what do you expect the 2008
sales to be?
Clearly it's escaped you that for there to be sales, someone actually
has to buy them. You think loads of people will, but I'm not, you're
not and I can't see anyone on here who's beating a path to their local
HMV to buy loads of them either.
