After they find that both HD formats are overpriced crap and do not
allow you to rip movies for you to watch on your particular MP3/movie
player*, or just back-up the discs to kiddie-proof your investment in
buying these expensive DVD copies of films.
I went HD ealier this week, so I may have something relevant to
contribute.
Needed a new telly anyway, otherwise I probably would have waited a
little longer before making the switch. Then I noticed that you could
get a fairly decent HD DVD player from Play.com for under 200 quid with
seven free HD movies thrown-in. Amazingly they're not all crap - I'd pay
good money for several of them - so I bought one of them too.
This was a few days before the Warner Bros Blu Ray switch news - typical
bad timing. I've started a non-urgent search for a cost-effective Blu
Ray player, but I'm not desperate (and I don't particularly need PS3
functionality!)
So - HD movies - better than DVD by quite a long stretch, but 1080p
upscaled DVDs aren't too shabby either. I'll be looking to make future
movie purchases in HD, but I feel no compulsion to re-buy my existing
collection. Maybe the odd one, but not the vast majority.
Kids and irresponsible gits don't get to borrow DVDs off me.
