Another thing, is anyone actually stupid enough to actually *pay* for
pirate DVDs? Surely anyone with half a brain can easily locate and
download any pirated stuff themselves rather than paying for it.
If the gaggle of tracksuited pushchair-pushing bling-wearing chavs that
gather round the DVD man at my local car boot on a Sunday are anything to go
by, one wonders if they even know that the Internet exists... or if they
did, how on earth they were meant to use it. Meanwhile Argos sell a DVD
player for a tenner - even those with half a brain can presumably plug that
into their Aiwa TV... ;)
When I was in Peru last year I was amazed at just how many pirate CDs/
DVDs are available. There are
whole markets selling all kinds of stuff (films, music, games), even
the most recent releases.
Apparently only 2% of music CDs sold in Peru are legitimate and it
means the US music industry loses about 100 million dollars per year.
And their are hardly any prosecutions made towards the sellers, the
police usually just turn a blind eye. It's the same in many other
South American countries too.
My wife has just come back from Peru with a huge pile of pirated DVDs
and CDs that she bought over there. No doubt she would have been in a
bit of trouble if she'd got stopped at customs.
Cheers
Jeff
You should have kept quiet about that. "Dubya" will be wanting to
invade Peru next for economic terrorism :)
