In the UK system you are not required to vote for parties. You vote for
individual candidates not parties.
Yes but you can only vote for one candidate for any given party, so
effectively you are voting for "the Conservative candidate/party" or "the
Labour party candidate/party". A vote for the person whom you think will
best represent your constituency is an implied vote for the party that he
belongs to and therefore for the party that will form the government and
therefore for all that party's current and future policies.
