Well this is a bit more of a complicated case probably. I'd say that
Iran and Iranian refers to the modern day country and it's culture,
cuisine, etc whereas Persian refers to the traditional cuisine (in the
case of the restaurants) that
has existed in the region (not just the modern day country of Iran)
since the time of the Persian Empire.

It also refers to a language spoken there....
Persian speaking Afghans are jokingly referred to as the "Geordies of
