Series 2 of Saxondale starts next Thursday - somebody must have
watched the first lot for the BBC to make more.

Go on, show yourselves. :)

I watched it.

But if asked the question: would you like another series then I
would have answered no

The Saxondale character is just an amalgam of bits that Coogan has
used before

It's not a laugh free zone but neither is it great comedy

I don't get a lot of modern 'comedy', maybe it's my age, maybe it's
the fact I grew up when comedians were funny, maybe I'm just a
grumpy old fart.

I suspect this bit has nailed your problem;-)

Whereas I suspect that memory is good at ignoring the crap. Comedy is like
the pop charts. It has always been mostly ordinary or worse. But we remember
the rare bits we liked.

I don't find Coogan remotely amusing, nor Gervais, nor Little
Britain, nor Tate, I could go on ad nauseam.

I suspect a lot of modern humour is media led, piece in newspaper
saying how brilliant so and so is and all the sheeple agree so as to
appear 'with it', they then slowly the error of their ways, re
Gervais.

I suspect you`re wrong about this.

Agreed. Tastes vary and have little to do with age. I never got into The
Royale Family but my parents loved it.

Yes, he`ll go out of fashion.
Everyone does eventually - there are few, if any, exceptions to this.
But that doesn`t alter the fact that he is funny. I have the same
problem with someone from the previous generation to mine, Hancock.
To me he`s just a fat bloke struggling to read his idiot boards, but
to oldies he was fantastic. The fact that he went out of fashion
doesn`t alter the fact that he was a genius for that generation, it
just means times move on.

IMO Hancock's best years were spent on the radio. I still love the radio
Hancock's Half Hour. Though a lot of that is to do with the supporting cast.

Having said that. Compare his TV shows with Paul Merton's dreadful remakes.
And I normally like Merton's work.
