That depends. Do you want the ability to record to hard disk as well
as to DVD, and do you want the ability to receive Freeview?
For reasons of portability(*), I use a laptop with a USB Freeview
receiver. I record programmes onto the hard disk -- because digital TV
is already compressed into MPEG-2 format (the same as is used on
DVDs), I can record the native Freeview signal, and not have to worry
about whether my recording settings are going to screw up the picture
or anything. I can then, in my own time, cut out the adverts and
experiment with squeezing them down onto DVD-R for archiving.
(*) Actually semi-portability, because I still need a big roof aerial
to pick up Freeview.
Decide for yourself if you want to do something similar: then you'll
know if you need a DVD/HDD recorder (150-300 pounds) or just a basic
DVD recorder (50-100 pounds).
