One strange thing I've had happen often is when some of the track names within
a playlist (mostly albums) appear outside of the playlist as well as in it, so
when just viewing it 'collapsed', instead of, say, Album 1, Album 2, etc, it
looks more like:

Album 1
Album 2
Track 5
Track 6
Track 7
Track 8
Track 9
Track 10
Album 3
Album 4

And rather than delete the seemingly-duplicated tracks from the playlist it's
easier to just clear the lot and add everything again since that's far less
painful with the scroll wheel.

Is that latest Zen (60Gb Vision) likely to avoid all the problems covered in
this thread? If so, I'll buy one :)

I never use playlists. I just don't understand how you'd use them.
I'm always copying music on and off my Zen - 30gigs isn't enough for
me. Perhaps if it were I could keep the same music on for months/
years and playlists would make sense. But even so, what do you have? A
`wake up` playlist, a `rock out` one, a chilled bed time one?
Wouldn't it get a bit dull listening to the same tracks in the same
order?

Each album is stored as a playlist plus a few for all the misc. tracks which
are split alphabetically (about 5 in total) as I thought that one containing
all of them led to the problem above, which it doesn't as it also happens with
10-track albums so that may as well all be in one playlist.

Stick it on random and off I go, so I could be listening to Frank Sidebottom's
Indie Melody followed by Mudvayne's Dig :)

Ironically since this discussion started i've managed to break the
`back` button. Fortunately you don't actually need it, and i'll try
and fix it again (note to self: super glue isn't very conductive). Or
perhaps I can convince myself that now I really need the vision m!

It's mad that I still haven't got round to converting all my CDs to mp3 after
years of having this thing (well, three, plus a 6Gb Creative DAP Jukebox
before that) and before I manage that, it's time to buy another MP3 player!
(unless anyone knows somewhere that'll guarantee a ***-up-free solder fix)

You could try doing it yourself and if it breaks sell it on ebay for
spares (the hard drive and display have to be worth something) and buy
a new one!

Following this up, I emailed Creative last night, stating the old
adage that electronic items are meant to last for "a reasonable period
of time" which is generally six years, and they said 'sod off', or
less concisely:

"Thank you for reaching us at Creative Customer Support; we appreciate
the opportunity to assist you.

As I have read your email, I do understand that the headphone socket
in your player has become loose. And for this event, I am sorry for
the inconvenience caused to you.

To follow up the issue, officially the warranty for all creative
player is only within one year and this has been further discussed on
the website regarding our warranty and returns.

For your own reference and guidelines, please visit the link below.

Likewise, if the warranty has expired, I have two options to offer
you, first is our Out of Warranty service subject to availability of
the parts and the cost may vary once you place your order with us.
Secondly, if you are planning to upgrade to a new player in the
future, I will be pleased to offer you discounts.
Let me know which player that you are interested with so I can give
you the quotation including the discounted price.

I hope that I am able to assist you with this information and will
look forward to your response again. In case if you need any
clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank You."

So, is there any way I can get them to bend on this over the six year
thing or am I losing a fighting battle?

TIA, Dom
