Well, it's a matter of public record that you attempted to defraud
your customers by mis-describing one of your publications, and that
you were bounced from a literary journal for your "questionable
practices", and further; you've been chastised for theft of
intellectual property and found guilty of attempting to defraud a
convention. With your criminal history it certainly should come as no
surprise when your actions are called into question.

Very amusing claims. Where are these public records then?

I do hope you aren't just choking on sour grapes because I discovered
that you lied about owning shares with your former ISP (an ISP which
swiftly terminated your account after finding out).

You've admitted all of these things (though you've tried to justify
your criminal behaviour). Anyone that wishes to can Google up the
admissions. Is this why you are still banging on about what stocks I
do or do not own years after this was explained to you?

You really are a clueless git, aren't you?

No, I really think you are going to have to provide evidence here. I haven't admitted these things.

You claim they are a matter of public record. Therefore, the onus is upon you to prove your allegations.- Hide quoted text -

Ho hum...

From the Toad's mouth as it were
1. That I stopped a cheque to the BFS after attending an abominable fantasy convention which even the BFS's own founder condemned as badly managed and self-serving for the BFS's cronies. Not so much an attempt to defraud the BFS as you keep arguing in your donkeylike obsession, but a defiant stand against an arrogant and corrupt genre body.

So you admit it.

2. I featured Ramsey Campbell's pisspoor review of one of my booklets on my website for a week so that someone else could take it apart, argument by argument. If you deem that extremely minor copyright infringement as a seriously criminal act

So you admit it.

Adam Walter alleges this on his website:
"Longhorn has since cut ties with Barker due to dishonest publishing practices at The Haunted River."
This is indeed news to both myself and Reggie Oliver. Our understanding was that Mr Longhorn took offence to my announcing a story-listing for Reggie's new book because it clashed with his own plans to publish one of the announced stories at a later date; also that Mr Longhorn had leapt to the conclusion that I knew who had designed an illustration which Reggie had given me permission to publish. However, on both counts Mr Longhorn had leapt to an unjust conclusion. I personally knew nothing of his intention to publish one of Reggie's stories in 2006 and

I was not told that he (David Longhorn) had designed the illustration
I was given permission to publish.

So you admit it.

As you also admit on numerous occasion that you mislead customers by
advertising a notch-bound book as being Smythe-sewn. Any quick search
of alt.books.ghost-fiction for the terms "Notchbynder", "moon-calf",
or "Ray Russell" & "printer" will reveal the whole the story. I can't
be bothered to sort through all of your lies, it's a lovely evening
and I'd rather play darts than continue to slap you around. Face it
Barker, you've stepped in it again.

As it's quiet and boring here at work I did look up those things using
google group search and now I want the 40 minutes of my life back . It
goes back to 2005 and possibly beyond , endless barker rants about
bloody horror fiction and various trade & genre associations that
frankly few outside of the small interest groups have ever heard of
about . You wouldn't mind but barker doesn't seem to want to actually
discuss horror stories but just have endless arguments like he does
here. Endless people telling him to stop or take it elsewhere, he goes
on about new google groups he's setting up but on l;ooking for them
there is noone there except him with a list of who _can't_ join.

It's sad and frankly a damning inditment of care in the community.- Hide quoted text -

If you had any powers of comprehension you would have realised from
your search that the reason I have encountered such animosity is
because I dared to query the corrupt status quo of a genre which is
managed by self-serving nepotists.

My knowledge of and love for the genre is beyond question: I've
written in it, I collect books about it and I have spent my own money
on publishing books on the subject. I'm therefore perfectly entitled
to question why it is that most of the genre organisations are riddled
with nepotism. In particular I've raised concerns about the lack of
democracy in societies which are allegedly meant to be owned by their
members (but which in practise are dictatorially managed by a small
number people).

In response to this, those who have most to lose - the Pelans,
Campbells and Rodens of this world - have heaped personal abuse on me
and encouraged their minions to do likewise. This is the key reason
for the conflict which sprang up between us. It is also why I decided
to stop publishing in the genre. Despite publishing two collections
which were widely tipped by reviewers to win awards, the books failed
to win any, and even failed to make short lists which they were deemed
'dead certs' for (happier news for the cronies though - their books
and friends' books won several).

If you don't think we live in a nepotistic society then you are
suffering from a naive delusion. Furthermore, people who try to
challenge the status quo often find themselves on the receiving end of
much personal abuse and dirty trickery (something also doled out to
whistle-blowers and the like).

And before you dismiss my views, you should bear in mind two things.
Firstly, as explained earlier, I am quite knowledgeable in my field,
and secondly, the founder of one of the organisations I have
challenged himself resigned in disgust because of this nepotism.

If you don't believe me, here's proof:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.horror.creative/msg/949c5066c7f7b0e7

Now, I don't expect you to like me, but I do expect you to act
reasonably, and to acknowledge that I do know what I'm talking about
here. I've published two well-regarded books, I've written a handful
of highly regarded short stories, and I've shown you proof that my
concerns about genre politics are valid. So my advice would be to back
off and desist from making inaccurate and inevitably ignorant
judgments.
