If it was in London we wouldn't hear anything about it! :-)I think with their history of fires they're a little embarrassed about mentioning anything like that.
Maybe in Manchester they're saying "Coo, it was like the Blitz - probably!"
Maybe if it happened in Greater Manc...but not here in central. I live
a few blocks from the scene of this fire, and people I've seen this
morning don't really give a ***. One guy told me he saw smoke rising
from the general direction of Afflecks Palace and feared the worst.
"Where will I get my vintage Levi's from if that place burns to the
ground?" He was devastated when I told him it might be closing down in
June anyway.
Hopefully it wasn't but you'd tell him that anyway to mess with his brain! Great!
We've become very Londonized up here. Oh yes. If we see you bleeding
to death in the gutter next to a store with some fancy pants on display
in the window...well, we know where our priorities lie. =D
I'm glad I've left that pile of *** that is London behind me, Croydon too! Okay, when tourists say London they don't really mean Camden Road, Kilburn High Road, Wood Green or any of those places.
There was one memorable day on the news as there was a small fire breaking out on top of an hotel in the distance behind the news anchorman. Something to do with workmen having left something on and going home, so plumes of white smoke were coming out of a small shed on the roof. There were various mentions of it by the news team inbetween other news read out and all in all that was a great news day.
Richard.
