I don't think it would work anyway.
You can say that again. Humans would become prey to some other
creatures. Their houses would no longer be serviceable, so they'd need
to scrap the lot and build new ones. Quite a lot of expense and waste.
Same goes for every sort of consumer goods from cars to Bic razors.
All industrial production would need to be retooled from scratch, and
of course the tools would have to be retooled. Think of the waste
involved, in materials that can't be recycled and in energy used, if
you took everything in your home (your paperbacks are suddenly bigger
and more cumbersome than the Gutenberg Bible) and destroyed it, then
demolished your home, then built several new homes on the site, then
filled them with new tat.
Farm animals would have to be genetically engineered to reduce their
size so that familiar cuts of meat would still be useable, and of
course to allow us to slaughter them. So would most food crops like
carrots, potatoes, apples and tomatoes which are no longer suitable
for most of the purposes we put them to.
All roads, railways, waterways and other transport infrastructure
would have to be dug up and built all over again. You may be able to
narrow a two-lane country road, but you can't do the same for an
airport flying Dinky jets, or a railway running Hornby trains.
Medical science would need to be rethought, with doctors going into
conclave with small-animal vets. Because your body is smaller your
heart rate is likely to be higher (this tends to be the case with
mammals) and your metabolism likewise. All the diagnostic values
doctors have learned over the centuries are out the window.
All the CDs in your collection would need to be chucked out, as a
human ear five times smaller than now would operate at a different
frequency range. In addition, they would sound exceedingly odd to us
as our reduced vocal cord length and chest size means we now talk and
sing like Pinky and Perky.
Not a single aspect of our lives would remain unaffected, and every
single piece of equipment associated with it would need to be
replaced. Imagine if your house burned down and all your gear was
destroyed, and there was no insurance. And everyone else in the world
was in the same boat.
That's just off the top of me head. I don't think you really gave this
subject much thought, Krustov.
